KUNGWINI WELFARE ORGANISATION
Welcome to Kungwini Welfare Organisation, a dedicated non-profit committed to improving lives. Our journey began in 1983 in Pretoria-East when the property was donated by the Jungnickel Family to start a home for people with disabilities. In 2002, Kungwini Welfare Organisation was established as a registered non-profit organisation. Registered with the Department of Social Development and the Department of Health.
- Our Mission: To improve the quality of life of vulnerable people and beneficiaries in our community daily.
- Our Vision: We are a value-driven, well governed and caring Organisation, which through service excellence and a developmental approach, provides specialised services to vulnerable people in our community.
Kungwini Welfare Organisation serves as the umbrella body for the following Business Units:
The Paul Jungnickel Home and Paul Jungnickel Senior Home: The Paul Jungnickel Homes is the cornerstone of our organisation, offering a safe and supportive residential environment for 135 adults and 25 seniors with varying severe and profound disabilities. We are dedicated to assessing the unique potential of each resident and providing a range of stimulating activities tailored to their needs. Our comprehensive care includes:
- 24-hour Medical Care: Residents have access to round-the-clock medical support and are transported to medical appointments daily.
- Nutrition: We provide three nutritious meals a day to ensure the well-being of our residents with regular tea and coffee breaks.
- Psychosocial Support: A dedicated social worker is available to address the emotional and social needs of each resident, ensuring holistic care.
The Protective Workshop: A safe, disability-friendly environment providing opportunities for people with disabilities to develop and improve their skills and to earn an income through the products that they make.
The Vocational Workshop: A rehabilitation workshop to reduce, as much as possible, the occupational and psychological handicaps imposed by their disabilities for adults not suited for the Protective Workshop.
Kungwini Early Childhood Development Centre: In line with our belief in the transformative power of education, we established the Kungwini Early Childhood Development Centre registered with the Department of Education. The centre serves as an educational haven for preschool children from our immediate community. Our approach includes:
- Educational Access: The school provides education for the age group 6 months to 6 years old. Qualified teachers and assistants are on site to ensure the curriculum is followed and regular inspections for the Department of Education and the Health inspector ensure everything runs according to regulations. Children receive 2 meals a day with snack breaks to ensure they are able to concentrate in class.
- Empowering Teachers: We hired local women who were previously unemployed, offering them on-the-job training and studying of their NQF 4 & 5 Early Learning qualifications.
Additional Services:
- Nickel Christmas Market: Our annual Nickel Christmas Market is our main fundraiser and vibrant community event that raises funds for our various programs. This market sells products made at the Protective Workshop by our disabled residents and provides a platform for local artisans and vendors to sell their goods.
- Second Chances Donation Site: We regularly receive donations in kind. These donations are of immense value to our organisation. First priority is supplying the needs of our beneficiaries and business units. Secondly, we sell items we cannot utilise, in our thrift store to the public to raise additional funds for the organisation.
The Unjani Medical Clinic: The Unjani Medical Clinic (previously known as Tshwenyega Clinic) was established to provide accessible healthcare services to those in need. Our clinic ensures that quality medical care is within reach for everyone in our community, reinforcing our commitment to holistic well-being.
Get Involved: We welcome your support in making a lasting impact. Whether through donations, volunteering, or partnerships, your involvement helps us continue to provide essential services and create opportunities for those we serve.
Thank you for visiting Kungwini Welfare Organisation. Together, we can build a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
